Making the Decision:
Whether you are interested losing ten pounds that you put on in the last 3 months, or the 50 extra pounds you’ve had with you since college, the first step is making the decision to change. This step is often the most difficult and may take the longest time. Your mind will constantly bounce back and forth, weighing the pros and cons of making that change. It isn’t until you have clearly determined that the pros outweigh the cons that you will be ready to commit to change. This isn’t to say that there won’t be moments of ambivalence, but if you consciously go through this process, you can be ready to counteract your momentary lapses by reviewing the factors that led you to this decision. This will help you to renew your confidence in your decision.

Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body Mass Index is an accurate indicator of surplus body fat than kilos or pounds. It is a mathematical ratio of height to weight that can be linked with body composition (or body fat percentage) and with indices of health risk.
Calculating BMI is as follows:
BMI = Weight (in kg) or BMI = Weight (in lbs) x 700
Height (in m)2 Height (in inches)2
For example, the calculation for someone weighing 80 kg (176 lbs) and 1.60 m (63 in) tall is:
BMI = 80 = 31.2 or BMI = 176 x 700 = 31.1
1602 632
The important thing here is :
BMI can be calculated either in imperial or metric.
weight in kilograms and height must be in meters.
Or weight in pounds and height must be in inches.
People with a BMI of 25.1 to 29.9 are considered overweight, and people with a BMI of 30 or above are considered obese.
Thus, from the example above, a person weighing 80 kg and is 1.60 m tall is considered obese. A high BMI assumes a higher percentage of body fat, which places a person at greater risk for developing chronic diseases and other serious illnesses.
No commentsAccording to a new study appearing in the American Journal of Periodontology, researchers have found a significant correlation between healthy eating and healthy gums. Specifically, those people who were not overweight, consumed a nutritious diet, and regularly exercised with moderate intensity were 40% less likely to suffer from gum disease.
Of the over-12,000 people surveyed, only 3% of the people possessed all three traits (not being overweight, eating a nutritious diet, and exercising regularly), but its interesting to note that as people added more of these traits to their arsenal, their periodontal health improved as well. Those people who possessed two of the traits were 29% less likely to suffer gum disease, and those who possessed only one of the three key traits were 16% less likely to suffer gum disease.
In statistics, there is a saying that goes like this: “Correlation is not necessarily causation.” This means that, while the correlation is statistically significant, one must decide whether it is the healthy behavior that is the cause of the healthy mouth, or the healthy mouth the cause of the healthy behavior.
No commentsLife is great, isn’t it? Stop and just look around you as you’re reading this and breathe in all that you have to be grateful for. You have a computer; you have the Internet; you have the ability to type; you can read; you have an attractive, intelligent, vibrant 50-year old woman who cares about you-that’s me! Remember to define yourself as Divine. The One who created you wouldn’t have it any other way. He expects you to let people know who you are and shout it out your car window if you have to. I prefer to wear a t-shirt that reveals who I am. I celebrated my 50th birthday on March 11 and got a t-shirt that says, "I’m 50 and I’m a Hottie!!"
You’re a Hottie too!! Take a few moments and get up and do the Hottie dance. Shake your booty and let’s hear the roaring sounds of, "I am a Hottie! I am a Hottie! I am a Hottie because I have a nice, sexy body! Go ahead and shake it all around! Being a Hottie is wear it’s at and you are definitely where it’s at.
No commentsIf you have been dieting, there is a good chance you have lost weight. Unfortunately, large numbers of successful dieters quickly regain the poundage. If you wish to maintain the weight you have lost without developing substitute excesses such as overspending, overworking, excessive drinking or smoking, you must satisfy the emotional hunger that causes people to overeat. To do this you need to master two basic skills ? self-nurturing and setting effective limits. Self-nurturing is the ability to check our feelings and needs throughout the day in order to know and honor ourselves and better meet our needs. Setting effective limits is the skill of having reasonable expectations and following through with them. That enables us to take action and have more power and greater safety in our lives.
People who have mastered these two skills are far more likely to be healthy and happy. Learning them is not a quick fix and takes time. But, from the first moment you use them, you will begin to feel better and more satisfied. After these skills are used over and over again, they become integrated into our brains, and the changes are developmental, that is, we begin to feel as if we have a new life.
No commentsAt its most basic, dieting is about burning more calories than you take in. It’s simple mathematics. With the variety of novelty diets on the market today, this simple fact is often overlooked.
Natural foods have great health benefits, as well as being great for the dieter. Combine eating more natural foods with more exercise and you should see results. The more processed the food, the more calories.
What natural foods help you lose weight? Water, the most natural thing we can put in our bodies, is essential. Try 8 glasses of spring water or filtered water each day. You’ll feel full and help your body eliminate waste.
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. They are full of vitamins and minerals, and you can eat veggies until you’re full.
Wholegrain muesli is great. Choose wholegrain bread and bakery items made with wholegrain meal instead of white flour and sugar.
Nuts and seeds are great sources of nutrients and fun to eat as snacks.
Use brown rice with your meals, and fresh potatoes are fine.

What you should know about your Diet Pill
? Diet pills help in rapid weight loss
? It is strictly for those who are above the BMI level of 30
? You can rely on the pills for 8-12 weeks after which it begins to lose effect
? When followed with a normal healthy diet and some walking or exercising habits, diet pills show excellent results in your body
? All diet pills come with minor side effects. If you feel a discomfort, meet your doctor to suggest changes in your dosage
? Follow a disciplined eating routine
Diet pills are mainly appetite suppressants which curb your hunger. It is stupid if you don’t take a medical practitioner’s consent before starting the diet pill. For you the dosage might differ or there could be chances of possible side effects. So it’s best if you seek your doctor’s advice to get the best pill results.
No commentsIntroduction
Obesity is the most common health problem facing children today. It has been suggested that obese children have increased problems with self-esteem and depression when compared to the normal pediatric population. Research in exercise and depression is persuasively showing how exercise may be elemental in treating low self-esteem. Moderate exercise seems to be the most effective intensity in reducing depression and increasing levels of self-esteem. This literature review will illustrate what other researchers have found and concluded in a.) finding a relationship between self-esteem and obesity, b.) the effects of exercise on self-esteem, c.) studies on motivation among children, and d.) the need for more research.
Finding A Relationship
In order to establish a relationship between obesity and self-esteem, a Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale was administered to 550 14 and 16 year old girls. Self-esteem scores were categorized by weight and weight by height. Scores on the Quetelet Index for Obesity were correlated with self-esteem scores. Mean self-esteem of the low-and-middle weight by height group was higher than the mean of the high weight group. In analyzing weight alone, the self-esteem of the middle-weight group was significantly higher than the self-esteem of the high-weight group. The correlation of the obesity index and self-esteem indicated that as weight increased, self-esteem decreased (Martin, Housley, & McCoy, 1988).
No commentsCellulite is a recent addition to the English language. In fact, it is not a medical term at all. It’s a term used to describe the way your body appears when adipose tissue forms lobular formations just under the surface of the skin. In plain English the “cottage cheese look” or dimpling that occurs primarily on your thighs, legs and buttocks is a type of fatty tissue.
Because the tissue forms in a “lump” close to the surface of the skin it gives it a very uneven and dimpled appearance. It is not medically harmful and it does not cause health problems. What it does do is cause you to feel less attractive when you wear your bathing suit. One myth about cellulite is that it is only obese people who suffer from it. The truth is that skinny people have cellulite too.
Cellulite is primarily a cultural and cosmetic issue. Society thinks that smooth, unblemished skin is part of what makes people attractive. People with cosmetic blemishes such as acne scars, burn scars, cellulite or even birthmarks are seen as less attractive. The psychological and emotional turmoil that this can cause in a society that demands the appearance of physical perfection can be very damaging.
No commentsOne thing I really must say at the outset of this article is, that if you were to ask the majority of men to define cellulite they would most probably be completely baffled.
Then after you explained it to them in detail and told them that you suffered from it, more likely than not the reaction would be to look at you as if you were slightly mad, shrug their shoulders and say that they had actually never noticed it.
So one consolation I suppose, is that most men apparently just do not see it and do not know what all the fuss is about!
(They can be wonderful sometimes can’t they!)
From a womans point of view however, cellulite is at best something which restricts what she can or cannot wear or at worst in extreme cases, something which can be downright unsightly.
If we are being brutally honest, dimples on our cheeks can be really cute, but dimples on our thighs and our buttocks most certainly are not.
It has been described as the dreaded “orange peel look” especially in relation to thighs and buttocks. Many women literally spend fortunes to try and find ways to eliminate it.
