Making Your Lungs Work Better With Water

All of us know when our lungs aren’t quite working right. We feel sluggish, and our heads feel foggy. It may be that we’re having an upper-respiratory infection, or some other problem.

But whatever it is, water will make your system work better, and more quickly take care of whatever the problem is. You will also feel better. The other thing water will do is keep your mouth and throat well-hydrated, because if you have an infection like that, chances are you will be coughing a lot.

Coughing is something we want to avoid. Like runny noses and sneezing, we think it’s embarrassing. But remember that coughs are there to help the body get rid of something, and rather than try to make the body quit, we should help the body. I don’t know about you, but I’d just as soon get over my coughing as quickly as I can. So start drinking water!

Magnetic Weight Loss — Does It Work?

Magnetic weight loss is the newest fad diet supplement to hit the net. What is it and how does it work. Oh, and of course, does it work?

Magnetic Weight Loss–What is it and How does it work?

Magnets are believed to carry an inherent ability to hypnotize, in a sense, or even physically change our cellular physiology, even causing us to lose weight.

At a cellular level it’s argued that bio-magnetism works by increasing cellular respiration, which is the process of breaking down macronutrients, like carbohydrates and fat, into useable forms of energy. The greater the rate of cellular respiration the greater the rate of calorie consumption.

Caloric consumption results in a negative energy balance and weight loss. Here is a quick summary of how bio-magnetism is proposed to work:

  • Magnet applied
  • Stimulation of cellular respirations
  • Calories in the form of carbohydrates and fat are burned
  • Negative energy balance occurs
  • Weight loss
  • Supporters of magnetic weight loss also claim that bio-magnetism results in a reactivation of body function and metabolism. I am not clear of the scientific meaning behind this claim.

    Natural Tonics for Health and Wellness

    I’m a great believer in natural tonics to strengthen or invigorate the healing system. - Dr. Andrew Weil

    The American Heritage Dictionary says that a tonic is?

    …an agent, such as a medication, that restores or increases body tone, an invigorating, refreshing, or restorative agent or influence. And a tonic is for producing or stimulating physical, mental, or emotional vigor.

    Tonics are usually liquid preparations that have a combination of herbs, vitamins, minerals and other ingredients. No tonic has any magical healing effect on any disease. That may seem to be a strange thing to say in an article about Natural Tonics for Health and Wellness. Let me explain.

    The only thing that can heal a body is the body itself. Nature has designed a self repair system for the human body that will accomplish the seeming miraculous. Most of the time all we have to do is stay out of the way.

    Sometimes a toxic agent, biological or chemical, can overwhelm the body’s capacity to heal itself. Medical science can assist by removing any overload. The body itself then takes over and does the actual healing. A tonic acts to supply the body’s repair mechanism with missing nutrients so that it functions at its best.

    The Lactate Threshold ? Reality or Fallacy?

    For many years exercise science has perpetuated the concept of a lactate threshold - a point during exercise where a sudden, sharp increase is noted in the concentration of lactate in the blood. This phenomenon is supposedly noticed when blood samples are taken from subjects performing incremental to max exercise tests much the same as a VO2 max test. Traditionally, it has been noted that when concentration of lactate is plotted against running speed (or %VO2 max) on a graph, as the individual runs faster the quantity of lactate in the blood remains constant up to a certain speed, after which a sudden inflection in the gradient occurs. This inflection point has been dubbed the lactate threshold - the point during intense exercise where the muscles become increasingly anaerobic, generating vast quantities of lactate. Therefore, this phenomenon has also become known as the anaerobic or ventilation threshold.

    Natures Way To Relieve Arthritis Pain

    PINEAPPLE AND PAPAYAS

    Medical authorities say that pineapples and papayas can relieve arthritis pain.

    Research shows that pineapples and papayas have potent anti-inflammatory properties from high levels of bromelain and papain, which are natural enzymes. These enzymes reduce the inflammation in two ways.

    First, the enzymes neutalize hormones in the body called prostaglandins. These are chemicals that spark pain in the body’s nerve cells.

    Second, they reduce painful pressure from fluid buildup in the joints. This is achieved by the enzyme dissolving joint debris, like tiny bone chips, calcium deposits, dead tissue and blood cells that can clog joints, leaving them stiff and swollen. University teams have found that eating the fruits can diminish inflammation by 25%.

    Bromelain and papain can turn a leathery-tough steak buttery soft, so you can imagine what they will do for stiffened joints. It will loosen them and restore movement. One of the most important functions of bromelain is to neutralize free radicals, the destructive compounds produced when the body uses oxygen.

    Autism and Nutritional Supplements

    Unfortunately, it has been proved beyond doubt that a large percentage of the United States population suffers from nutritional deficiency. Studies show, 30% of the general population has a marginal level of Vitamin C and 15% are Vitamin C deficient. Low level of vitamins and minerals like, calcium, iron, folic acid, magnesium, and chromium continue to be a significant but common problem in the United States. It is also being noticed that children suffering from Autism are the most common patients for vitamin and mineral deficiency. Generally children suffering from Autism have much lower level of vitamins A, C, D, and E, and all B vitamins (except choline) and some minerals (zinc, magnesium, selenium).

    The most common problems that are detected in children suffering from nutritional deficiency can be listed as follows:

    * High Copper: Zinc ratio

    * B12 deficiency

    * Calcium deficiency

    * Sulfate deficiency

    * Vitamin A

    Why children with Autism suffer the most?

    Chronic diarrhea/constipation: Malabsorption is a common problem related to Autism. A recent study by the Southwest Autism Research Center of over 400 people with autism has found that 48% reported chronic diarrhea or chronic constipation

    Superfood or Superfad

    I have been reading a lot lately on the subject of anthrocyanins. Anthrocyanin is a pigment found in many fruits and vegetables but especially in berries.

    Studies have been done on a variety of berries to discover the possible health benefits as dietary antioxidants. Blueberries have been thought to have the highest amount of antioxidants. Antioxidants are known for their ability to fight free radicals which do damage to our bodies. Many scientists regard this damage as a factor in aging. Blueberries are also thought to be helpful in lowering cholesterol, slowing aging, improving eyesight, reducing inflammation, fighting cancer and urinary tract infections and protecting neurons from memory loss.

    Blackberries and boysenberries are also known to have high levels of anthrocyanin. Research from the current issue of the journal Nutrition and Cancer has led scientists to believe that blackberries could be a powerful new tool in the fight against cancer. Strawberries are also thought to be helpful in fighting cancer although lower in antioxidants. Research also shows that the anthrocyanins found in elderberries enhances immune function and may be beneficial in deterring some strains of the flu.

    Dieting Will Never Be the Same! A Review of How to Make Your Diet Work

    According to the American Obesity Association, an astounding 64.5 percent of adult Americans (about 127 million) are categorized as obese or overweight. According to the website’s statistics, obesity causes at least 300,000 excess deaths and is responsible for 100 million dollars in healthcare costs each year for obese and overweight Americans. A very real and often devastating problem for so many, obesity should be considered a healthcare crisis and given the utmost attention.

    And one would think that with all the fad diets and personal weight loss programs promoting quick and easy weight loss that those numbers would be much lower or at least in decline. The problem is that Americans are fat. And we are getting fatter. Diet after diet comes along and yet we can’t seem to lose the weight and keep it off. Is there a solution, finally , to the crisis?

    According to Dr. Michael Smith there is, and it has to do with focus. Perhaps everyone has been attacking the wrong problem.
